The maths

The VRAM model, the assumptions and the formula are published on the about page and stay that way. If the model is wrong, publishing it is how it gets corrected.

Why not charge now

A calculator earns trust by being right, not by being gated. The paid tier — saved experiments and config export — only makes sense once the free estimates have been validated against enough real runs to be worth saving. That is the order this gets built in.
